The fire began on Sunday, Feb. 4 around 10:15 a.m. at a two-and-a-half-story residence on Orchard Street in Peekskill, according to the city's fire department.

Arriving fire crews soon found heavy flames coming from the rear of the wood-frame building and began stretching a hose line to begin dousing the blaze. At this point, the fire had engulfed the entire rear of the building from basement to roof and was beginning to even reach surrounding structures, firefighters said.

Once the fire on the outside of the residence was finally put out, firefighters then began dousing the inside of the building despite the high heat and zero visibility.

The fire managed to fill "void spaces" and reach all three floors before it was finally put out in a "labor intensive" two hours.

The cause of the fire was not released.

In addition to Peekskill firefighters, members of the Yorktown and Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department also assisted with the response.

"As always, we appreciate all of the help!" the Peekskill Fire Department said on social media.
